NHIC Annual Awards scheme

Every year more and more organisations across the spectrum of UK housing are taking part in the National Home Improvement Council’s prestigious Annual Awards scheme. So don’t hide your improvement schemes under a bushel give them a well deserved airing and allow other housing providers to benefit from your knowledge and experience.
These unique Awards have been gathering momentum for more than 33 years. Now they are undoubtedly the premier housing awards of their kind and highly regarded by people across the housing spectrum.
The Electrical Safety Council is again supporting the award for Electrical Safety. Applications are welcomed from public and private sector landlords who have an established programme providing effective electrical installation, maintenance and/or safety awareness systems and initiatives
Entries will be judged against the following criteria:
- The electrical installation is checked regularly - at least every 10 years (and on change of tenancy)
- Residual current device (RCD) protection is provided for socket-outlets that may be used to power portable equipment outdoors
- Qualified/registered electricians are used to carry out electrical work
- Relevant standards are complied with
- Tenants’ and residents’ awareness of electrical safety issues is raised
- Electrical appliance in sheltered schemes are checked once a year
- Customer satisfaction is good
- Energy saving initiatives are implemented
