New Forum Provides 17th Edition Guidance
3rd April 2008
A new all industry forum, hosted by the Electrical Safety Council and comprising technical experts from 11 professional and trade organisations, has been established to provide consensus opinion on the application of the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations. The resulting electrical installation guidance is being made freely available to all on the Electrical Safety Council’s website www.esc.org.uk/forum. The Electrical Installation Forum is made up of representatives from the following bodies:
- Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors
- BSI Product Services
- CORGI
- ECA
- ELECSA
- Electrical Safety Council
- IET
- NAPIT
- NICEIC
- OFTEC
- SELECT
Mike Clark, Technical Director at the Electrical Safety Council explains,
“The forum enables the participating bodies to submit technical queries relating to the application of the requirements of BS 7671: 2008. Technical experts from representative bodies discuss the issues and arrive at an industry-wide consensus, which is then published in a dedicated section of the Electrical Safety Council’s website.
The aim is to build up a data bank of technical questions and answers, which anyone in the industry can draw upon freely for the purposes of developing their own technical guidance, publications and training materials.”
Electrical contractors and installers are able to access all the technical guidance agreed by the forum online. Individuals with queries relating to the application of the requirements of the 17th Edition not addressed on the forum’s web pages should contact their own registration or trade body for guidance in the first instance, which may then decide to refer the question to the forum for consideration.
