New head for Electrical Safety Council
1st January 2007

From January 2007 Phil Buckle takes over as head of the Electrical Safety Council, the consumer electrical safety champion.
Phil joins the Electrical Safety Council from the NICEIC Group, where he worked as the Marketing and Business Development Director, and was previously Head of Technical Services at the Electrical Contractors Association.
Director General of the Electrical Safety Council, Jim Speirs said: "We welcome Phil as the new head of the Electrical Safety Council. With his wealth of experience, Phil has the knowledge and enthusiasm to spearhead the charity's work with partners in industry, accident prevention groups and Government to develop a greater awareness of safety amongst consumers of electrical products and installation services, as well as supporting electrical contractors with best practice solutions."
Commenting on his new role, Phil Buckle said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to help shape the work of the Electrical Safety Council. It is a shocking fact that faulty electrics cause, on average 8000 house fires, 4000 serious injuries and 30 deaths each year. It is vitally important that all sectors - industry, Government and consumer groups - continue to work together to advance understanding and awareness of electrical hazards, to promote safe practice and, ultimately, to reduce the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities caused by faulty electrics."
Emma McCarthy, who successfully oversaw the launch of the Electrical Safety Council in 2006 is stepping down from the role to spend more time with her young family.
